Sony Mdr G75Lw Street Style Neckband Headphones Black

Keep it casual with these street smart neckband headphones with a tangle-free retractable cord. Fold away for easy storage. A new urban essential.

User Ratings and Reviews

3 Stars Good Enough at Low Volume
I purchased this mainly because I wanted a comfortable neckband headphone — in this regard it’s okay. Sonically, it’s slightly better than the stock earphones that come with ipods, zunes, etc… but it doesn’t really compare to a similarly priced/sized Sennheiser PX100 or even the much cheaper Koss KSC75.

The bass is there, details are good enough to enjoy at midrange, and the soundstage is decent enough for me. Now for the bad: transparency is significantly worse compared to the PX100, timbre sucks, and worst yet… the sound starts to saturate at mid-volume. To put it in perspective, on a volume scale of 1 to 10, the Sony starts to lose sonic details at around 6 while the Sennheiser PX100 will retain its sonic quality up to 10!

I guess this headphone is good enough for casual use at low volume listening.

Other headphones I own: Sennheiser HD650, HD595, HD497, PX100, Koss KSC75, UE Super.fi5 Pro, Panasonic RP-HC500, etc…

3 Stars Not as good as its predecessor (MDR-G74)
Compared to its predecessor (the MDR-G74), these headphones are a big disappointment. They have inferior low-range sound, tin can-like high-range sound, an uncomfortable fit, and short cord.

Positioning the headphones to be comfortable and give decent sound is almost impossible. The button for the retracting cord rattles as I walk and annoys the hell out of me. The cord is too short for me to hold my iPod in my right hand while walking, whereas I could with my MDR-G74’s. The cord is extremely thin, but is wrapped in cloth and seemed strong.

Though they are more stylish than my MDR-G74’s and have a retractable cord, the cons of these headphones far outweighs the pros, which is why I am returning them to Amazon.

[On a side note, the best headphones Sony ever made in this line was the MDR-G73. It appears they might be going downhill]

4 Stars Good exercise headphones
Overall build quality is good. But these headphones excel at preventing excess cord interfering with your workout. Cheaper than bluetooth headsets, and not reliant on batteries either. The inertial reel system for the cord works very well, and the cord itself, while thin, is covered in a durable nylon fabric. I’ve encountered some instances where the cord will not retract. But when this occurs, flipping or rotating the headphones in your hands appears to unlock it, enabling retract again. The headphones also fold, which is an added bonus before stuffing into your gym bag.

So what’s the audio quality like? Mediocre. Not a problem at a noisy gym; and really, what other kind is there? Having previously used in-ear headphones that fit in the ear canal, I do not like the lack of sound isolation from over the ear headphones like these. But they are more comfortable for long term wear, especially when sweating. And they stay in place far better than ear buds. The covers on these headphones are removable, so they can be washed.

I can’t attest to the overall durability yet. I imagine that the inertial reel would be an early failure point. But if they last for over a year I’ll definitely purchase a follow-on pair when these wear out.

3 Stars Decent Design, Mediocre Audio
I really like how these headphones fold up and how they fit on my ears. I bought them mostly for the retractable cord, which did not disappoint. I like how they let in virtually all ambient sound, so I can hear what’s going on around me. I do NOT like that the cord is so short (3 ft, I think.) It has forced me to switch my iPhone-carrying pocket to my left side, since the cord comes down off the left ear, which really bothers me. So this feature is bad for anyone who is not left-handed.

The audio quality is throughly mediocre if not bad for this price range. I shutter to think what the $20 version of this headphone sounds like. All the reviewers on this page who rave about its bass and treble must have never heard anything better than the iPod stock earbuds. I think these reviewers would feel born again if they ever heard a $70 pair of Grado SR60’s.

Bottom line, these headphones are overpriced for what you get.

5 Stars Portable quality sound at last
Folds into a size small enough for any pocket with my Cowon D2. Clarity is good, nice range and bass is deep for the size. Doesn’t make you feel like you’re missing anything like most portable headphones. Much better sounding than my MDR-g52g and they stay on well enough to go running with. Padding is much improved over most open-air Sony headphones. For the price I hope they are durable and the cord is thin but covered by some fabric weave.

Perfect for people who wish they could fit quality sound into their pockets without 6ft. cord and massive cans to draw attention. I have Sennheiser 202’s that sound slighty better, but are a hassle to bring along.

Acer Aspire One 8.9″ Memory Foam Pouch is the perfect fit for Acer Aspire One 8.9″. This pouch is made out of premium quality shock absorbing memory form and it provides extra protection even though case is very light and slim. This pouch is water resistant and has internal supporting bands for Acer Aspire One 8.9″. Made In Korea.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Wonderful case
This little case fits the Acer Aspire One netbook beautifully. The memory foam provides some cushioning;I don’t plan to drop the netbook in or out of the case!! The outer pouch — very important — comfortably holds the charger with cord and a tiny, retractable cord mini mouse. I am thrilled it is NOT leather. This case is a great, stylish, Earth friendlier way to carry this netbook. The inner “straps” are good to hold the netbook in place. You can use the computer within the case, a plus. It is made by CaseCrown and is well made. I had purchased another case which was too big, and had NO problem returning it to this same seller (Senyx). They even waived the 15% restocking fee!

5 Stars Airport relief
Small enough to pack anywhere. You do not have to bare the laptop in the airport. It protects it as you travel. Well made and perfect for the task.

3 Stars A Little too Big
You’d think from the way it is advertised here that this would be a “perfect fit” for the 8.9″ Aspire One.

It is not. It is a little too big, and the hold down straps do NOT really hold the computer securely.

Other than that it seems to be a very nice case, though eyelets for a carry strap would be a nice addition. This only has the carry handle.

Sony MDR G57G S2 Sports Street Style Headphones with Reflective Ear Piece

These Street Style headphones employ the comfortable and stable behind-the-neck design. They have a non-slip design, making them ideal for exercise or for a walk to the corner market. To encourage safe night-time activities, the MDR-G57Gs come with a reflective ear piece. They are also water-resistant, completing the necessary checklist for full-function sports headphones. The behind-the-neck style is also appropriate for urban and casual wear; remember that with this style you can wear a hat while wearing the headphones. The MDR-G57Gs were designed for extended wear, and, weighing in at under two ounces, you may indeed forget you are wearing headphones.

Sony has installed several technical features to the headphones to ensure a quality listening experience. The thirty millimeter drive units are large for portable headphones, and deliver deep bass, low distortion and a wide frequency response range (16 – 20,000 Hz). Sony’s Acoustic Turbo circuit achieves high sonic output by utilizying sound chamber and duct technology. Ferrite magnets give the headphones solid energy at a minimal size and weight, while the oxygen-free copper cord provides high conductivity and minimum noise. The gold-plated stereo mini-plug makes sure that sound is transported fully and accurately. The gold-plated treatment also helps resist corrosion and supports the headphones’ high conductivity and low noise. The five foot long, single-sided cord is plenty long for active pursuits. Replacement earpads are included.

5 Stars I got tired of messing around with ear buds and bought these.
I have several sets of earbuds and I got really annoyed with constantly having to reposition them while I was on my treadmill, so I went back to the “old school” headphones. What a deal!

They sound great. Getting a significant difference in the aural experience would likely cost several times as much money, and when you’re on a treadmill listening to a movie it doesn’t matter so much. However, what does matter is that they fit snug and are still comfortable enough to wear for a couple of hours, and that does matter when you’re on a treadmill or working out some other way.

So, now I can exercise and watch my movies when the rest of the family is asleep and not even think about how the sound is getting to me. Great job Sony!!

5 Stars Comfortable and great sound
I wear these about 3-4 times a week during my workouts. My ears do not hurt after my sessions. With them being so comfortable, I sometimes forget that I’m wearing them. The sound output is great. I would definitely suggest these to a friend!

5 Stars My purchase
I had an older model of these that I really loved. Had them for years. I decided to get another pair and these work just as well as the last pair. I would recommend these.

1 Star Basically worthless.
I have foolishly bought about 3 of these, at various times. Each and every one of them died on me and my wife, within a few months of use. One went out within a month.

Quality control is non-existent. We didn’t use it rough, just the normal gym use, which is what it is advertised for.

Never again. Sony, when you decide to make things cheaply, remember, it is the same name on an expensive camera as well as a $30 headphones. You lose a bit of your shine each time.

I am looking at Sennheiser, Panasonic, etc now.

5 Stars Headphones
Fast shipping. The headphones are exactly what I expected. They are great for running.

Sony Headphone Style Walkman MP3 Player Black

Sony Headphone Style Walkman MP3 Player Black

The NWZ-W202 is a wearable mp3 player with high quality secure-fit headphones, outstanding sound quality, ZAPPIN song search mode, and with 12 hours battery life. This unique and lightweight player is ideal for the street or the gym.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars It works fine on Macs
I am a mac user and I was planning to run this MP3 player on virtual Windows via VMware Fusion.

But guess what? This works fine on my Mac!

Jut plug in and drag-and-drop MP3s from iTunes to MUSIC folder inside this MP3 walkman.

The control’s very simple, NO sound setting (not even sony’s Mega Bass), two buttons to control volume, a jog dial for play/stop and previous/next track, NO fastforword/rewind. ZAPPIN function gives short 4sec (by default, 15 sec option’s available) clips on each track.

The sound quality lacks in bass, but it feels pretty clean and certainly good enough for loud fitness center and indoor rock climbing gym.

Some may have difficult time putting this on your ears. This type of earbuds exists in sony for awhile and this is how you do it:

You either pull your ear lobe as you put it on

OR

as you put it on your ears, rotate the earbuds piece so it’s vertically oriented instead of horizontal as shown on photo. It should fit securely if you did it right.

2 Stars Great music, poor biomechanics (for me)
The unit works beautifully as a player for someone just walking (or sitting) around. At least for me, this is how it played out (pun intended.) But for a sports player, as a runner, the unit did not work well for me as the left ear piece kept popping out of my ear. To be fair, I have this problem with most in-the-ear canal type music devices. Only over-the-ear types work for me.

So, buyer beware. Make sure you can try and return if you decide to get this unit. If it works for you, it’s fantastic. A great sound, easy to use, and I surely wish it would’ve worked for me. But, alas, it did not, so I had to return it.

5 Stars Best sport option
Background: I have been looking since what seems forever for the perfect headphone/mp3 solution for the gym. I exercise mostly at the gym for strength training (use my own music) and for cardio (I use guided interval training mp3 workouts). I use cardio coach (www.cardiocoach.com) my absolutely favorite cardio option, and itrain (www.itrain.com) which is pretty neat too.

Traits I look for in the perfect mp3 player for the gym:

- Should be light, unobtrusive and rugged. I do not want to worry about scratching, dropping or damaging the player. The player should not get in the way when I workout.

- No headphone wires. Headphone wires get in the way and sometimes I have even yanked them accidentally out of the player while working out.

- Should be easy to navigate to and find what I want to play (exact Cardio Coach Volume, or playlist for my strength training)

- Decent sound quality

I dont mind not having a whole lot of storage-capacity because I am OK with transferring music/workouts frequently to the player. About a couple of weeks worth of content is all I expect it to hold.

About the Sony W202: This is an incredible idea. A pair of great sounding wireless headphones with a 2GB mp3 player integrated right into the headphones.

Overall impressions:

- Better than jaybird gear, the previous bluetooth wireless headphones (for use with ipods or any mp3 player) I had reviewed here (http://www.amazon.com/review/R2VP6138TP6JQ6/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm). But the perfect gym mp3 solution has not yet been invented. (I used the jaybird gear headphones with an ipod nano. Wireless freedom and no need to wear the nano on my person either…it can be kept in a corner of the gym….was quite happy…I am dumping them now and switching to this Sony W202.)

How it scores over jaybird gear:

- I have come to realize that with in-ear style sport headphones (headphones that are sweat resistant, comfy and wont come out when you are active), fit has a lot to do with shape and size of the ear canal. I was lucky to get decent fit with jaybird gear. They dont work for my husband as they keep falling out when he runs. From online reviews this is what I gather too. Either they fit you or they dont. Sony has a less ear-shape dependant construction and is likely to fit more people, though it is by no means universal. It has three sizes of ear bud adaptors to provide flexibility for ear canal size.

- Sound quality is better than jaybird. Jaybird uses bluetooth – bluetooth compression affects clarity of sound. Jaybird sounds decent ( better than a lot of regular, non-bluetooth, cheaper headphones) but is not on par with higher end headphones.

The good:

- Meet the need so well on being comfortable, unobtrusive and secure-in-fit (the last being for me…your mileage may vary based on your ears). I did a 40 minute elliptical workout, a ten minute treadmill run and some core training on the stability ball and they stayed put and out of the way. I did not have to as much as touch the headphones to adjust the fit except once in the first five minutes of the workout when I fiddled for a better angle in the fit for a few seconds. They then stayed completely out of the way and secure. (For me, the fit is more comfy and secure than jaybird.)

-The controls seem difficult when you look at the player, but when you actually use them they are surprisingly easy to operate. I had no learning time. I did not fiddle. I could very easily control the player during the very first time.

- I like the Zappin feature for ease of operation. When you press the jog wheel and keep it depressed, you hear “Zappin in” and then the player scrolls through all the music on the player by playing brief snatches of each song, When you find the song you want you just press the jog wheel again and it will play sequentially from that point on. To exit “Zappin” mode all you do is press the jog wheel lightly again and you hear “Zappin Out”.

- For $ 69, they are very cost effective. That is less than a high end pair of headphones and less than quite a few mp3 players as well.

- It has a optional shuffle mode if you want it to play music in random order.

- Great battery life and a 3 minute charge option for 90 minute playback.

What could have been better:

- You can use two modes to transfer music to the player. The first is with the inbuilt software called “content transfer”. Content transfer works with iTunes or Windows Media player. After you install Content Transfer on your PC, you can drag and drop music from iTunes or Media player on to Content Transfer. It will analyse each track to recognize the chorus as it transfers music to the player. Then, should you use Zappin during playback of the player, it will play the most recognizable bit. Issues with Content Transfer:

a. Not eactly as easy to set up and use as itunes. OK for people who are techno-patient and dont mind reading manuals, but not as intuitive as itunes.

b. The auto-recognition of the most recognizable bit may not work very well for workouts (workouts tend to have longer mp3 tracks some of which reuse music). It works most of the time but not always for music. I could not recognize most of my workouts and a also few songs using this feature.

c. The “announce” track-name feature to overcome lack of a screen in the latest iPod shuffle is a better way to navigate a screenless player. Too bad that the Shuffle still needs wired headphones. (Except for the navigation ease, I consider W202 a better sport option than the shuffle).

- You can also simply treat the player as if it were a detachable hard-drive on your PC and manually copy songs. Whe you use “Zappin” it will then play a snatch from the 45 second mark within the track. I think this feature is better because it allows you to organize the music exactly as you want within folders on the player, unlike Content Tranfer mode that organizes its own folders on the player. However, there is no way to scroll from Folder to Folder during playback. The player will go through your music in alphabetical sorting order – by folder, and within each folder by track name. You can easily organize the music so that you put in a preceeding number (like 01., 02., 03., …etc) before each Folder name or track name to ensure it plays in the right order. The ability to scroll not just through tracks, but also at the folder-name level whould have created the equivalent of playlists on the player and brought it pretty close to perfection in my opinion.

- There is no way to mark tracks to exclude them in shuffle mode as you can with ipod models (I can mark workouts, audiobooks and podcasts to be excluded in shuffle mode on my ipod and just listen to my music in random order).

The bad:

- You can skip to the next song or the previous but you cannot forward or rewind within a track.

- The USB connecter on the player is not covered. During active use that represents an issue because sweat could get in and cause damage. The positioning of the mini-USB connector port isnt exactly where sweat is likely to reach, but still…if you work out hard, the player coud be at risk.

Should you get the player?:

- Only if you are thinking of getting a new player specifically for the gym or for active use. Otehrwise get something with a screen to help navigation.

- If you already have a player or wireless bluetooth headphines, wait for the next Sony Walkman W202 version which (based on how vendors release upgraded models of popular mp3 players) should be about April 2010. I bet the player will overcome many glitches in its next avatar.

- If you buy, make sure you buy from a place that has a return policy in case the player does not work for you during the first couple of exercise sessions.

1 Star Don’t Buy This To Work Out!
Sony warns buyers not to use the headset in wet or humid conditions and the company means it. I bought mine on clearance at Target for $25 a few weeks after they were released. CLEARANCE already? That was a major warning that they have a BIG problem. Of course, I didn’t heed it.

The first time I walked out the door wearing the headset in normal Florida heat and humidity, it lasted about four minutes before it started beeping and crashed. Reset revived it. The second time I wore the headset, I took it to the limit running. It lasted fifteen minutes before the song review program Zappin — a name more appropriate than even Sony imagined — switched itself on and it crashed. Now even reset won’t bring the headset back to life.

The shame here is that Sony invented the perfect headset to wear while working out. The gear is so lightweight, it’s easy to forget you have it on. Now if only it could play music.

Do yourself a favor, wait until Sony overcomes the moisture and, I suspect, shock sensitivity problem before you buy this headset.

5 Stars Almost Perfect!
Unlike the earlier reviewer who claimed it’s not sweat/water resistant, mine works just fine. The sound quality is excellent. The jog dial control is very easy to use. And the battery life is truly amazing! The only thing missing here is the FM tuner but I don’t listen to radios when work out so I have no problem with that.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Almost perfect
Well, these headphones have been a great find for me, they are very comfortable and block out nearly all wind noise up to about 20 mph on my road bike. Unless I am in a pretty high cross wind the air whistle is non-existent.

I think 1 improvement that Sony could make is to supply 1 size larger ear cups for us folks with big ear canals, but for most other people these are a great investment.

4 Stars Excellent ‘active’ headphones, highly recommended
I’ve had these headphones for about 2 months now and I really like them. They sound great, and stay put. I like the way the buds sit in my ear and block out a lot of outside noises. When I run, turn my head, etc the buds do not come out what-so-ever. I will mention that they start becoming a little uncomfortable after an hour or so because they are pushing against your ear. Its worth it when exercising, but it would be annoying if you bought these for any other reason. I am not an audiophile, but I thought the bass levels were ideal. You can definitely hear bass, but its not too much. These headphones are definitely worth the price!

4 Stars Comfortable During Workout
I was having a problem with other sport headphones not staying in place. Sweat always caused the earbuds to fall out. I was intrigued by the style of Sony AS50G. Since I have started using this headphone, I no longer have any of the issues I experienced with other brands. It is by far the most comfortable headphones I have ever used during an active workout. The sound quality matched my expectations.

2 Stars poor sound quality and functionality
I bought this to replace my damaged Ipod headphones. I mainly use it when I workout. The sound quality of these headphones are much poor compared to ipod earphones. Secondly, they got loose after 3-5 uses and keep slipping out of the ear. Thirdly, because of the design( band benind the head), it is hard to pack and carry it in the gym bag without damaging it. However, it does come with a carrying case. I would not buy this product again.

4 Stars Perfect Headphone for Excercise
This is a really great headphones set for exercise. The earbuds stay on securely and even have a relatively short cord (with an extension, if needed) so the cord does not get caught in your hand movements. The sound is excellent, although probably not audiophile quality but then you probably have alot of background noise anyway. I love them.

I purchased these as replacements for the original cups supplied with Koss KE29A(Wal-Mart) earbuds. These replacements fit better and seal off outside noise better than the originals.

5 Stars Very happy with this iPod speaker
I’m very happy with this Sony speaker. I can (if I wish) max the volume without any distortion or overdriving of the sound. Very clean sound (provided the recording is clean of course). I didn’t know what to think of this unit, but bought it because of my previous ‘luck’ with the Sony brand and comparing to other products online.

I’m glad I bought this, I’d recommend it for those who want to be able to listen to their iPod without having earbuds/headphones on.

5 Stars Can’t go wrong with Sony!
I purchased my Sony speakers for my 30GB Zune player from Target a year ago because Zune did not have speakers with docking stations out yet. Because it’s a Sony, you know it’s not going to be a piece of crap. The unit is very light which makes it easy to tote around. The sound quality surprised me for such small speakers. I can turn the volume all the way up on my Zune and also on the Sony speakers and the sound does not distort in any way. It has a sliding (vertical) cradle attached to the back of the speakers. In the bottom of the cradle is a slot so that I can put my charging cord through the bottom and into my Zune. I can lay my Zune sideways on the cradle if I want to watch a movie. My 3 boys all have Zune players so I’m always on the hunt to see which room my Sony is in. I recommend this product for the price (I paid $60! so this is a good deal), quality, and portability. I usually keep my speakers in my bathroom so, after a year, the steam doesn’t seem to affect it’s performance. For a Sony, this is definitely worth it. I love mine and I’ll be getting 3 more for my kids!

4 Stars Not like a dock, but nice little
This little powered speaker is a decent one-room speaker for an MP3 player. It’s a bit smaller than I expected.

pros:

-design is clean and well thought out

-auto off mode (turns off after a few minutes) is a nice feature

-dock works for both MP3 players with headphone jack on top and bottom

-AC cord is nice and long and the brick is small

cons:

-sound won’t fill up a large room

-color may fade over time
