5 Stars GREAT SOUND! I CRIED!
This pair of erbuds made me cry…all the songs came to life.
BUY THEM!!!
2 Stars OK only..
Interestingly, the EX700 sounds nothing like previous incarnations of Sony IEMs (think MDR-EX71) but rather, they sound quite similar to it’s full-sized brother, Sony’s flagship MDR-SA5000 – very revealing of details, but horridly bass-shy and highly tilted in the treble region. Unlike the SA5000 however, the EX700 just never seems to stop exhibiting sibilance. This is one VERY sibilant headphone, and burn in just never seems to get rid of it. I find that I’m using bass boost on these things more than I normally would with a pair headphones.
The headphone comes with 7 silicone sleeves, but I never found that they fit me just right. In my opinion, they’re all way too small. On a different note, the EX71 comes with just 3 sleeves, and it’s medium pair fits me perfectly. I got the best fit by placing a Shure medium silicone sleeve on the EX700, but that immediately degraded the sound and made everything sound muddy. General comfort is very good; I can easily keep them in my ears for hours on end without much pain.
I would have preferred just a zip pouch over the supplied leather slide-out case if you ask me. That case is just too awkward to wind up, especially with the right-angled plug. If you have the EX700SL version then the case is perfect if you detach half of the headphone cord and keep just the top portion, which is then terminated in a straight plug.
4 Stars classic sony sound
As the owner of the full spectrum of earbud style headphone — from ipod included crap-phones to top of the line Shures– I place these ‘phone near the top of the spectrum. They’re not really worth the $300 asking price, but 30-50 % off that (which most retailers are selling them for) is about right. Sound (after 10 hours of breaking them in) is tight and crisp, without sounding overly bright at higher volumes. The buds have a sort of classic Sony sound — not part of the bass-midrange- treble mix is over-emphasized, which makes for a generally pleasing sound. Fit and comfort is top of the line, tho — the variety of color-coded bud tips supplied is unequaled, and the unit itself is light yet surprisingly sturdy and unobtrusive. An elaborate storage case with molded compartments for each phone to sit it, is also included. The only negative, I suppose, is the quality of the cord itself, which feels thin and perhaps prone to breakage. But for $150 (the price I paid) the 700’s are recomended.
Sony MDR EX81LP Bud Style Stereo Earphones Black
Sony MDR EX81LP Bud Style Stereo Earphones Black

Audiophiles who demand great sound quality but need something smaller than over-the-ear DJ headphones will appreciate the Sony MDR-EX81LP Bud-Style Stereo Earphones. With nine millimeter diameter driver units and PET (generic mylar) diaphragms, your music will sound loud, clear and rich. The MDR-EX81LP driver units reproduce surprisingly-clear recorded sounds at a wide frequency range (5-23,000 Hz). These substantial, compact earphones also feature neodymium magnets for greater power handling and higher frequencies. Five times more powerful than standard earphone ferrite magnets of the same size, the neodymium magnets mean that the Sony MDR-EX81LP Bud-Style Stereo Earphones maximize energy, while keeping size to a minimum. With these advanced technological features, the MDR-EX81LP provides great sound in a tiny package.
Sony MDR-EX81LP Bud-Style Stereo Earphones earbud design was built for the audiophile on the go. Made of Elastomer, the hanger fits around your lobes for a snug fit. Sony has not scrimped on comfort, designing the earbuds with soft silicone for a stable and comfortable fit within your ears. Also, Sony has used a lightweight, aluminum shaft throughout the earphone for even more stability. These features allow you to listen to clear, robust sound while you’re at the gym, the ballpark, or any time you’re on the move.

4 Stars Great sound; so-so design
I’ve tried out about 10 different sets of Sony headphones, as well as a few from Sennheiser, and finally settled on these for my gym headphones. The sound is fantastic for the price range with enough bass to satisfy me while maintaining clear highs and vocals. I did try out a few higher-end buds, but although they provided better sound, the neck-chain cord was a deal-breaker. I can’t stress how much I dislike this design. For one thing, I wear my iPod on my right hip since I’m right-handed, so the cord has to cross my body. So much for moving the cord to one side! And aside from that, the best placement for a cord when you’re working out is right in the center (sure it’s out of the way when I do my right-sided exercises, but it’s directly in the way when I do my left-sided exercises). I really wish Sony would offer it’s high-end earphones with a choice of either neck-chain or Y-type cord.
Now, I must mention that the MDR-EX81’s also have a neck-chain cord, but it’s a compromise I’ve had to make since the sound on all models with a Y-type cord is unacceptable to me. Fortunately, the cord on the MDR-EX81 doesn’t bother me as much because of the over-the-ear design. This helps eliminate the pull of the cord on the earbud, which makes quite a bit of difference. Unfortunately, the over-the-ear design is not adjustable and is obviously made for someone with huge ears, so it’s a very poor fit for me. But the earbuds remain fairly snug throughout my workout, so it’s not a deal-breaker. Oh, and one more thing – I absolutely love the case, which keeps the cord from getting tangled in my gym bag. Overall, I give these headphones 4 stars with one star off for poor design.
2 Stars Returned them because they didn’t fit in my ears.
I had to return these because even the smallest ear pieces did not fit in my ears. I’m a guy and I’ve never had trouble wearing earplugs so I was surprised that I could not get these to sit in my ear canals.
4 Stars Earbuds
Some what disappointed in the fitting of the earphones. The sound quality was good but the fitting was not.
1 Star Second pair of defective MDREX81LP headphones – Thanks SONY!
There are two good reasons NOT to buy these headphones: 1) they may very well fail without cause, as two pairs I’ve own have failed; and 2) SONY is so contemptuous of their customers that they offer to replace your defective $30 headphones with a `reconditioned’ pair for $25. What a deal!
Do yourself a favor before buying: consider my experience with SONY repair. I mailed in my bum buds – the second pair that failed – but I objected to SONY’s pricing. Surely they have a better deal to offer? Nope. SONY shipped back my buds complete with torn packaging and internal routing crap. Oh – and they invited me to get back to them: “It would be our pleasure to accept a major credit card.”
I bet: $25 for used headphones with no cut to the retail middleman. This is SONY standing behind its product. “You’re on your own, sucker.”
4 Stars Great Headphones
These are great earbuds. What I love is that they “wrap” around your ears so the don’t fall off during busy activities. If I need to pull them out, I usually let them hang on my ears until I push them back in which is also very convenient. They have great sound and the price make them an excellent deal. I’ve been using these for years and they are my favorite. The only thing holding me back from a 5 is they aren’t noise cancelling and they aren’t super high quality sound. But those headphones often start at 10 times the price of these. Personally, I have no problem living with these!

5 Stars Title Misleading: actually pink/gray + blue/beige
This product is actually 2 separate pouches. Both are reversible. They are identical in every way except that one is pink on one side and light gray on the other, and the other is baby blue on one side and light beige on the other.
According to the mini accessories catalog that came with my Cybershot, I suspect that the other color Sony LCS-CSK/B Draw-string style pouch Soft Carrying Case (Black) is actually one pouch that is black/red and another that is brown/dark blue.
5 Stars Is actually 2 cases
Alittle misleading. You actually get 2 cases. “Pink” gets you 1 pink and 1 blue (both reversible). “Black” gets you 1 black (red is the reverse) and 1 brown (blue is the reverse).
4 Stars I Like it
I was a little disappointed when they arrived and it wasn’t as pink as I hoped. But I got over it real quick! I put my digital camera in it. I don’t have to work about anything happening to the camera when I throw it in my purse, backpack, or tote bag.
I like it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sony MDR EX71SLA Fontopia Bud Style Headphones with Case Black
Sony MDR EX71SLA Fontopia Bud Style Headphones with Case Black

Many noise-reducing headphones feature large, over-the-head or behind-the- neck headbands, making them rather bulky to use while traveling or working out. Not so the Sony MDR-EX71SLA Fontopia headphones, whose ultra-light, in-the-ear design sounds great while minimizing distracting ambient noise. The closed-type construction makes the headphones a perfect fit for airline, train, or bus travel, or while dancing or skating to your own tunes. The phones owe their audio performance to the extra- small 9 mm drivers and neodymium magnets fitted inside each earpiece. The drives and magnets combine to generate high-intensity sound, with a deeper-than-expected bass response (as low as 6 Hz) and refreshingly crisp mid- and high-range tones (all the way up to 23 kHz). Listeners will also dig the three sizes of earbuds that come with the headphones, ensuring that users find the right match for their individual ear shapes while enjoying long-lasting comfort. And thanks to the dual cord lengths–1.65 feet (original) and a 2.3-foot extension–the phones are great for both iPods and MP3 players on armbands or belt clips.
Other details include an oxygen-free copper cord that reduces noise and improves signal transfer, a gold-plated mini-plug that resists corrosion, a stylish neck chain cord, and a streamlined carrying case that slips easily into a shirt pocket. The 100 mW phones, whose black color matches many MP3 players, is backed by a one-year warranty on parts and a 90-day warranty on labor.

5 Stars Great quality headphones!
These headphones are absolutely phenomenal. When I wear them when I’m studying, I can’t hear anything that’s going on around me. For such a low price, these headphones are a steal!!!
5 Stars I can’t believe they’re this inexpensive!
I just received my second set of these earbuds. I wanted to buy some more before they were discontinued. Sony, if you are listening, keep making the MDR-EX71SLA! These are the second best sounding earbuds I’ve ever owned, the first being the Shure E5’s, but those shure buds are in a totally different class and with a $500 price tag, I’ll not be getting them again.
Pros: Sound quality is fantastic…better than anything else of Sony’s that I’ve ever heard, and I’ve tried all the Best Buy Sony earbuds. I even bought a pair of Bose earbuds, but immediately returned them because they are way too boomy, lacking in good definition in the mid-high range. I even bought a set of Shure e210 buds, but also returned them the same day. I’m noot paying nearly $200 for crappy sounding earbuds. These little white sony earbuds beat them all in my opinion. Crystal Clear higs, very nice midrange and astounding bass, when the song calls for it, not all the time. The Sound Isolation of the soft rubber is nice as well, I drive a large vehicle and I can hear all the pick noise, soft nuances and quiet bonus material that’s on many tracks, but that only people with good hearing and great equipment can hear. I like the short version of the cables when my Ipod is in my front pocket. I also like the soft rubber that surrounds the buds (white rubber) because it’s more comfortable on the ears and face.
Cons: the dang rubber ear canal thingies will fall off after time. My solution has been to buy a super cheap set of earbuds costing $6 that have the same size rubber thingies and use them as spares. Also, I’m not too hot on the left ear cable being so short, like others have said. But it’s a small price to pay.
5 Stars Great headphones for the price.
These are great headphones for the price. They would be even if they were 50-100 dollars. I just got mine in the mail today and let me first say the bass is unbelievable for earbuds. It is deep and doesn’t distort with my Ipod Nano 4g at max volume. Everything about these headphones is great. I also love the behind the neck design Sony used. I think they are much more functional and it makes them less likely to fall out when using them in the gym (which I did today).
Again the most impressive thing about these headphones is the sound quality. Great bass, great highs as well. Definitely the best headphones I have ever used with an Ipod. Obviously they don’t compare to Sony Studio Monitors or Shure Earbuds ([...] bucks) which I frequently use while DJing but as someone who knows his audio I do love these. For the price you can’t go wrong.
3 Stars One side way longer than the other
Headphones are decent. Quality of sound coming through is great, unless you want to run and listen to your music at a low volume which causes the Stethoscope effect from the headphone cord bouncing against your chest and interferes with the listening experience. I have no idea why the right side is so much longer than the left. Also, unless you are 3′ tall, you will absolutely need to use the extention that comes with. Would I purchase again…no, it is aggravating having one side much longer than the other!
4 Stars Good product
Love the headphones. Wiring seems to have improved over the previous model by Sony. Sound is good. They feel solid in the ear and block out most noise. Carry case is an improvement.

5 Stars Excellent! Love ‘em!
I haven’t ever spent more than maybe $35 or so on a pair of in-ear headphones before. But when my iPod headphones bit the dust, I decided to see what was out there.
These are magnificent headphones. The audio quality is easily the best I’ve heard out of all of the in-ear headphones I’ve ever had. Bass is clear and strong, and the high end is not tinny or distorted like on some lower end headphones. Even with the volume high, the clarity is amazing.
They come with three different sized silicone rubber earbuds, a “cord adjuster” which allows you to change the effective length of the cord for your needs, and a nice nylon/velcro carrying case with an insert that allows you to tie up the cords neatly. The description says it’s a leather carrying case, but there’s only a small tiny portion of it that is made of leather, a strip less than 2 sq. in. in size that has the Sony logo on it. Looks nice, but has no useful value other than aesthetics. The vast majority of the case is nylon. But that’s perfectly fine with me, it’s still quite nice.
The earbuds are absolutely key to your sound quality. When I first put them in, I guess I must have been using an earbud size that was too small, because the bass was horrible and the sound was distant and unsatisfying. As soon as I put the larger earbuds on, it provided a good seal, and the sound was so great I almost fell down. So make sure you take the time to get the right fit and the right position before you make a decision about how you like them.
The overall size is good, too. Even though these look bigger than the standard Apple headphones that come with the iPods, I can put my motorcycle helmet on over these with no problem, whereas the Apple headphones always get pulled out a little. And the noise reduction is really good, too. Properly inserted, they reduce the roar of my bike at highway speeds to a low rumble. As a comparison, my Apple headphones on the highway needed to be at about 85-90% volume to hear the music reasonably well over the sound of the wind and motor. With these headphones, I only needed the volume at a little over 50%, and I could hear the music BETTER than I could with the Apple phones at a much higher level.
They’re a great buy, in my opinion.
5 Stars Amazing
I’d like to think of myself as a blooming audiophile, and i have to say that these earbuds blew me away. The bass was fantastic and held together well, and the highs were crystal clear and fused beautifully with the mids. they did require a little bit of “burning in” but 20-30 hours of listening to music truly brought out the best from these earphones. Best headphones for at least double its pricerange.
5 Stars Best Deal For The Price!!
I couldn’t have asked for a better set of ‘phones. I paid the same price for my last pair, which was also by Sony. It’s my first experience with the in-ear versus ear-bud style phones, but I have to say that for the price that I paid this is still an excellent deal! Couldn’t be any happier. Not my first pair of Sony headphones but definitely my most favorite.
5 Stars Great Ear Buds
I have had the Sony MDR-EX-300/BLK for about 2-weeks and very happy with them. I got them at Best Buy on sale for $56. My cat chewed up my V-moda ear buds right before a long plane flight. The Sony buds had a few good reviews and I had to have my music for the flight. For ear buds they are very comfortable. I use sound reducing ear muffs to reduce the plane noise over my ear buds. This is a cheap way to get noise reduction. The problem is they are not very comfortable. I found the MDR-EX-300 did a good job of noise reduction and I did not have to use sound ear muffs.
One thing I have found with my V-moda and other ear buds I have used, the rubber piece that goes in your ear falls off easy and I have lost several. On the Sony’s they have a very tight fit and will not fall off. They are actually a little hard to change for a different size – but that is better than too loose.
My ears are a little burned out with too much load Rock & Roll. But I find the sound to be very good for the price. When listening to a high quality recording they sound great. They also bring out the defect on lesser quality MP3’s. They are best ear buds I have used so far. The carrying case is very well design and protects them from my cat. Highly recommended.
5 Stars Excellent!
Best bang-for-the-buck headphones out there, in my opinion. As some previous reviewers noted, the highs can be a bit overwhelming for some. I eq the treble down a tad. The large drivers really help with the lows. Very comfortable headphones too!
